Embracing God's Promise of Abundance When Hardship Endures
The Best Laid Plans
by Jenny Hander on September 2nd, 2014

"You can make many plans, but the LORD's purpose will prevail." Proverbs 19:21

I love the routine of putting my young son to bed at night. As I stand holding him in front of his crib my son will place his blankie (one of those small, square, snuggle-sized blankets) on my shoulder and then lay his head on top of the blankie. After a few minutes of rocking him gently my son gives his best attempt at a goodnight kiss and lays back in my arms for me to place him in his bed.

Sometimes, however, my son attempts to deny his need for sleep. Rather than snuggling on my shoulder my son will toss his blankie back into the crib and begin pointing toward the nearest exit. My son's defiance fails to produce even the slightest rise of anger in me. Instead, I find those occasions extremely funny . . . as if my infant son actually knew what was best for him.

I wonder if God feels the same way about me?

On some occasions I find great pleasure in yielding to God's plan for me. I recognize that God knows best, and that His plans are far above anything I can think to ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).

Other times I resist God's plans the same way my son attempts to avoid going to bed. I toss God's plans aside and search for the nearest exit. I envision God shaking His head with a smile saying, "Now Jenny, do you really think you know what is best for you?"

I can spend many hours making the best laid plans for myself. But if I live wisely, I will yield to God's plans instead of my own.

Jenny you must have been reading my mind! This is exactly the lesson the Lord had for me today in His message. That everything is in his plan for us. Good, bad, and most of all those situations that we don't understand and we so often question. And it seems looking for the exits is the easy way out? Instead of standing your ground because there is a divine lesson in His will not ours. So blessed by your blog.

Crossing Your Jordan

I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling, Bible-teaching mom of six, and wife to my college sweetheart. I believe everyone can live a life of abundance through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and radical obedience to His Word.

Do you have a relationship with God through Christ? If not, I would consider it pure joy to tell you about God, why you need Him, and how to be reconciled to Him through Christ.

If you know Christ as your Savior, do you know how to follow Him as Lord? If, like me, life's challenges have caused you to question whether you truly want to follow God's plan for you, or you simply don't know how to recognize God's ways due to a lack of biblical literacy, I would love to teach you what I've come to know about God through His Word.

Regardless of who you are (or aren't) or what you have (or haven't) done, I invite you to find a comfy spot, grab a cup of coffee and a Bible, and enter your contact information below.
