Embracing God's Promise of Abundance When Hardship Endures
Keeping Watch
by Jenny on February 24th, 2015

"Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. 'Couldn't you men keep watch with Me for one hour?' He asked Peter." Matthew 26:40

Last night was one of those nights. Our youngest began vomiting around midnight. (Why is it that stomach bugs and smoke-detector batteries always demand attention in the middle of the night?!?) It was one of those nights when I wished I could tell my child, "Just go back to sleep honey, and we'll deal with everything in the morning." However, my child's circumstances demanded that I keep watch over him throughout the night.

While I lie awake last night I thought of the time Jesus asked His disciples to keep watch with Him through the night. The disciples were not to keep watch as spies but rather they were to keep watch of the One who could provide support to them for the events which lie ahead.

Jesus knew the disciples would soon face circumstances that they would fail to understand; events which would cause them to question and indeed, seem to forget everything Jesus had taught them during the past three years. Jesus told His disciples, "Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!” (Matthew 26:41)

My spirit often feels so willing to follow God . . . but my flesh grows weak. With our fifth child on the way I am waiting for God to reveal the next step for my family and me. My spirit is willing to wait for God to show us which path to take, however, I feel my flesh growing weaker and weaker with each passing day. I begin to doubt and question how God will continue to use me as life grows more busy.

Last night my body felt weak. I desperately wanted to sleep. But my circumstances required that I keep watch. What if I applied the same discipline of keeping watch over a sick child to Jesus' words? What if when I needed direction in life, I kept watch of my Savior at all times instead of falling victim to the temptations of wandering . . . of wondering? Oh, imagine the strength I would find.

I hear the Savior say,
“Thy strength indeed is small,
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all.”

Welcome!
Crossing Your Jordan

I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling, Bible-teaching mom of six, and wife to my college sweetheart. I believe everyone can live a life of abundance through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and radical obedience to His Word.

Do you have a relationship with God through Christ? If not, I would consider it pure joy to tell you about God, why you need Him, and how to be reconciled to Him through Christ.

If you know Christ as your Savior, do you know how to follow Him as Lord? If, like me, life's challenges have caused you to question whether you truly want to follow God's plan for you, or you simply don't know how to recognize God's ways due to a lack of biblical literacy, I would love to teach you what I've come to know about God through His Word.

Regardless of who you are (or aren't) or what you have (or haven't) done, I invite you to find a comfy spot, grab a cup of coffee and a Bible, and enter your contact information below.
