Embracing God's Promise of Abundance When Hardship Endures
Joyful is the Mama
by Jenny on May 2nd, 2015

"Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!" Psalm 127:3

My husband and I didn't plan to have five children. (Okay, so in my first book I might have mentioned something about a desire to raise a family the size of a basketball team but that was BEFORE we had even one child.) We didn't plan to have five children but as of this past Monday that's exactly how many little arrows are in our quiver.

Feelings of fear and doubt threatened to overcome me when I first realized we were expecting again. Sure I could "manage" five children . . . but could I raise them well?

What about me? How could I divide myself across five children and have any of "me" left for my husband, for God or for just me?

But as I type this blog with a five-day old baby boy laying across my chest, all my doubts and fears have disappeared (well, most of my doubts and fears). As any new mama--birth or adoptive--knows, the moment you meet your child for the first time all worries and concerns become replaced by feelings of

sheer elation.

utter pleasure.

complete joy.

And what about the woman unable to conceive or adopt a child? Does she miss out on the joy of a full quiver?

Not a chance.

Because true joy isn't found in our new son. Pure, lasing joy comes from the Maker of our son. Going on three hours of sleep does not make me joyful. Joy comes from experiencing the fulfillment of God's plan for our family.

God's plan is different for everyone. But Romans 12:2 assures us that God's plan is good, pleasing and perfect. When we trust and allow God to show us the way of life, He grants us the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever (Psalm 16:11).

My husband and I didn't plan to have five children. But joyful is this mama who just had added to her quiver another cute little arrow.

Welcome!
Crossing Your Jordan

I am a stay-at-home, homeschooling, Bible-teaching mom of six, and wife to my college sweetheart. I believe everyone can live a life of abundance through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and radical obedience to His Word.

Do you have a relationship with God through Christ? If not, I would consider it pure joy to tell you about God, why you need Him, and how to be reconciled to Him through Christ.

If you know Christ as your Savior, do you know how to follow Him as Lord? If, like me, life's challenges have caused you to question whether you truly want to follow God's plan for you, or you simply don't know how to recognize God's ways due to a lack of biblical literacy, I would love to teach you what I've come to know about God through His Word.

Regardless of who you are (or aren't) or what you have (or haven't) done, I invite you to find a comfy spot, grab a cup of coffee and a Bible, and enter your contact information below.
