Embracing God's Promise of Abundance When Hardship Endures
What's Your Jordan?
Here's My Story
Many women are familiar with the story of God leading the Israelites into the Promised Land along the dry bed of the Jordan River. But how can a woman enter her promised life of abundance when her river of suffering continues to flow?
That is the question I placed before God after one of my infant twin daughters passed away in my arms in 2005. Though I had boldly embraced God's promise of abundant life since coming to know Christ as my Savior as a sophomore in high school, I failed to envision how I could ever live abundantly as a bereaved mother. God may have parted troubled waters for the Israelites but the pain caused by the loss of a loved one endures forever. I felt as if the path into my promised land would remain obscured by an ever-flowing river of grief. My hopelessness seemed impassable. The experience of my daughter's death became my Jordan River, that which blocked the route into my promised life of abundance.

Eventually I tired of the despair and asked God to show me how I could live abundantly when my personal Jordan remained at flood-stage. For the first time in life I began to devour God's Word in effort to learn more about the One in whom I had chosen to place my trust. Truth by truth God drew me into a deeper relationship with Him; a relationship in which I realize that God is in control, that He loves me more than I can fathom, and that He promises to work all things for my good and for His glory. As a result of my relationship with God my life is now more abundant than ever before.
What's Yours?
In John 10:10 Jesus says He came that we may have life and have it abundantly. What circumstance or past life experience keeps you from embracing that promise? What keeps you from entering your promised life of abundance? What is your Jordan?

I understand firsthand the challenge women face believing God's promises of goodness amidst trouble and hardship. My greatest passion is leading women into a deeper relationship with God by exposing the truth of His Word in light of hard times.
